End-Capillary Oxygen Content Calculator

Calculates CcO₂ from hemoglobin, end-capillary saturation, and PAO₂.

Inputs

Color mode links each input to the matching equation term and solving arithmetic.

Equation and Work

Equation:
Solving steps:
Hb-bound O₂
mL/dL
Dissolved O₂
mL/dL
CcO₂
mL/dL

Clinical Significance

End-capillary oxygen content estimates the best oxygen content available at the pulmonary capillary level. The 1.34 constant represents hemoglobin-bound oxygen capacity, and 0.003 accounts for dissolved oxygen.

CcO₂ is used in physiologic shunt calculations.

Use alveolar oxygen saturation or an appropriate end-capillary saturation estimate, and PAO₂ for dissolved oxygen.
