Mean Airway Pressure Calculator

Calculates approximate mean airway pressure during mechanical ventilation.

Inputs

Color mode links each input to the matching equation term and solving arithmetic.

Equation and Work

Equation:
Solving steps:
Mean airway pressure
cmH₂O
Inspiratory fraction
f×I/60
Reference status
<30 cmH₂O
Normal/reference: <30 cmH₂O during mechanical ventilation.

Clinical Significance

Mean airway pressure estimates average pressure in the airway during mechanical ventilation. The 60 in the equation converts respiratory frequency per minute into the fraction of a minute occupied by inspiratory time.

Mean airway pressure reflects average airway pressure across cycles and is influenced by frequency, inspiratory time, PIP, waveform, and PEEP.

Calculator output should be interpreted with the patient’s condition, measurement quality, and local clinical policy.
