Calculator for actual minute ventilation \( \dot{V}_E = f \cdot V_T(\mathrm{L}) \), used to quantify total respiratory output over one minute.
The minute ventilation equation allows for the quantification of respiratory output to measure the total output of ventilation over one minute.
Using the minute ventilation equation, clinicians are able to put actual respiratory output into quantifiable terms to monitor total ventilation over one minute of time. Putting a number to ventilation output helps track changes in ventilatory status and determine whether intervention may be necessary.
Minute ventilation alone does not fully define ventilatory adequacy. Clinical interpretation should also consider dead space, gas exchange, work of breathing, laboratory results, acid-base status, and the overall patient presentation.
